About Neelum Valley


Neelum valley is a 144 km long thick forested region in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K) in Pakistan administered Kashmir. It is named after the Neelum River. The Valley is situated in the North-east of Muzaffarabad, running parallel to Kaghan Valley. Neelum valley and Kaghan Valley are only separated by snow-covered peaks over 4000 meters above sea level.
The valley is connected from Muzaffarabad by Neelum Road, Which leads up to KEL. The road condition from Muzaffarabad to Athmuqam is very good and suitable for any kind of transport. From Keran to Kel road condition is not well and not suitable for low floor vehicles.

Kundal Shahi

The village is located 74 km from Muzaffarabad on the bank of neelum river

Athmuqam

The chief town of valley located about 84 km from Muzaffarabad. It is the headquarters of Neelum District. All the basic necessities of life are available there. Hotels, rest houses, markets, Post office, banks hospitals are also present.

Kutton

Kutton is also known as Jagran valley. It is a village and tourist resort located 82 km from Muzaffarbad and 8 Km from Kundal Shahi on the bank of Jagran Steam.

Keran

11 km ahead from Athmuqam Keran resort is located on the bank of Neelum river at the altitude of 1524 meters.

Dowarian

It is located 106 Km from Muzaffarabad and 22 Km from Athmuqam on the bank of Neelum river at the altitude of 1614 Meters.

Sharda

One of the beautiful spots of the Neelum Valley located on the banks of the Neelum river at an Altitude of 1981 meters, about 136 km from Muzaffarabad.

Kel

The most beautiful village of Neelam valley located 19 km ahead from Sharda at the altitude of 2097 meters.

Arang Kel

A village and tourist spot located on the hill top near Kel at the altitude of 2554 meter. It is accessible by a 2 kilometers from Kel.

Taobat

The last station of the Neelum valley. It is 200 km from Muzaffarabad and 39 km from Kel.

Lakes in Neelum Valley

Chitta Katha Lake

Chitta Katha Lake is located in shonter valley, a sub valley of Neelam Valley at the altitude of 4100 meter. The lake is accessible from Kel by a 20 km jeep track and then 5 km hiking trek. Kel is the base camp to this lake.

Shounter Lake

Shounter Lake is a small lake located in Shounter valley at the altitude of 3100 m. It is accessible from Kel by a jeep track.

Ratti Gali Lake

Ratti Gali Lake is located in neelam valley at the altitude of 3700m. The lake is accessible from Dowarian by a 17 km jeep track and 2 km hiking trek. Dowarian is the base camp to this lake.

Saral Lake

Saral lake is located in Neelam valley, at an altitude of 4100 meter. Sharda is the base camp to this lake.
